Today's 10x3S is:
- Based on the word 'Snow'
- Snow by Clyme
- Time start, 9:27pm
Off-center little man, maybe there's something he isn't sure about.
When the snow falls all around him, and his body faces the open street, but his gaze is carried down to a crack in the wall.
A crack that appears to be glowing, a warm red hue.
The shimmer fills him with joy, calling to memory the holidays passed.
The happiness of being surrounded by family, friends, gifts, thankfulness, it all seems so far away now.
Deep within the crack of the building.
A taxi drives past in a screaming blur, but the little man is still eyeing the crack, hoping to unlock the secrets it holds.
The secret that one day he'll be an old man, and have family of his own.
The realization that his life is in front of him, not in the past.
The comfort of knowing he's loved, even when alone on a street corner.
This piece creates a really nice sense of mood and character. But I think you began by captioning the picture, not writing a story about it, so your first few sentences are a little rough. Then you start to get more into your own characterization and the piece flows better. I especially like the last two lines. There is a little awkwardness in the middle when you mention the "crack of the building." That's a somewhat odd phrasing that might be unclear if someone didn't have the picture. You could try "the gutter line" or something similar (I'm really not sure what that should be called, quite honestly :')).
